Performance Event: Gongs In A Cave Without A Name

I was invited to play my gongs and singing bowls as an introduction to a wedding ceremony.  On April 8, 2017, I arrived at Cave Without A Name near Boerne, TX and set up my Tibetan singing bowls and cymbals and Chinese gongs on a stage in the magnificent underground space.

Preparing for the event, I met with the clients to craft a sequence and pace for the performance, selecting tones, times & techniques for a creatively custom experience.

Unlike a meditation or yoga class, in this event attendees were expected to talk and visit with each other. The gongs occasionally exceeded a conversational volume, encouraging guests to find a seat and reflect on the event & venue.

I found the voices to be interesting audio companions to the gongs and bowls; bringing their own fluttering, emotional textures to the echoing soundscape. Each voice’s rise and fall affecting my performance as we played in time together.

A room full of conversations can be a relaxing audio experience, and I was often lulled to sleep in busy restaurants as a child. I fell asleep on my couch the first time I watched this recording; I hope you find it relaxing as well.
